In the Year Of Our Lord Two Thousand and Seventeen (Week 16)

皆さんこんにちは! Hope everyone had a great week because it was great here in  Japan. This past week has been incredibly busy for the missionaries and for everyone else. So basically, Japan sorta celebrates Christmas, but Shogatsu (New Years) is the big one. Everyone goes back to their hometowns for a week or two and spends time with their family partying it up. Because of this special holiday season, the church members here in Fujisawa have been feeling particularly generous and have been feeding the missionaries a ton. We have had at least one shokuji (meal with a member)everyday for the past week but most days we had two shokuji. Because of all the time spent with members, traveling back and forth, and preparing for the new year, we haven't had much dendo (basic missionary work i.e. streeting, housing, etc.) time though which was kinda a bummer. In top of that, our investigators are out of town with their families so we haven't really been able to work with them either. But, this has been valuable time to get to know the member and build that relationship.

Because Japan is the land of the rising sun, technically, we were the first to people in the world to experience 2017. In your face America!  This year begins what missionaries call the "dark year" for me.  Basically it's the year on a mission that missionary doesn't see his family. 2017 will be that year for me. Family and friends have always been very important to me so it has been hard to leave them behind for two years. But, at this time in my life, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I'm still a pretty new missionary, but this mission experience has changed me like nothing else. I have been able to gain a stronger testimony, learn several life skills, and meet some amazing people. The mission has definitely been the hardest thing I've done, but it has also been one of the most rewarding. I am beyond grateful for the love and support from my friends and family who made this mission experience possible for me. I am doing my best to make the most of every moment! Working hard and playing hard. Time flies when your having fun, so if time isn't flying for you, you're doing it
wrong! 皆さん愛しています!

MTC Week 1

Wednesday September 21, 2016 My p-day in the MTC is every Wednesday so expect emails then. I can read emails any day but I can only reply on p-day. I will admit, the first week of The MTC was really really tough. It was incredibly frustrating trying to learn the language, and trying to adapt to my new, very scheduled lifestyle. Since Sunday, I've been able to settle in a little more though and come to terms with having to be patient with myself as I learn the language and further learn the Gospel. On our second day in the MTC, we received our first investigator, Ohira san, who we have been teaching in Japanese! The first lesson was a total bomb shell, but as we have learned to stop trying to rely on ourselves and our own teaching skill, and start relying on the Spirit to teach, we have seen much success in just these few days. My companion is Jones Chōrō. We are not very much alike at all, but we work well together and generally keep each other in balance. Chab Chōrō is our dis...

The Beginning of the End ⛩ (Week 97)

Have you ever just walked outside and been like, wow, you know, it’s really really hot out here and it probably can’t get any hotter than this? And then you walk out the next day and realize it got even hotter... We’ll, if I had to sum up our week this past week, that’s how I’d describe it. Hachioji truly is 太陽の町. It’s been rough, but we’re hanging in there and having some fun along the way. In other news, this past week was transfers, and there has been some major changes. First off, I’m still here in Hachioji (blessings from Heaven), but Elder Gill transferred to my old area Yokosuka, and my new companion is the one and only Elder Matsunaga from Yamaguchi-Ken. On top of that, our zone has doubled in size and now we cover the entire Machida Stake rather than just the western half. Yea, I just thought last transfer was busy. We’ve been running around like chickens with our heads cut off working with Stake leaders, organizing all our districts, planning zone conference, and coordinatin...

Typhoons, Lady’s Baseball, and Zone Conference⛩🇯🇵 (Week 98)

Well, it’s been quite the week over here in the Land of the Rising Sun. Once again, we’ve been stretched pretty thin with not a whole lot of time to come up for air, but it’s been a blast and we’ve been blessed to see all kinds of miracles. To start with, the beginning of last week was all meetings and planning for Zone Conference this past Thursday . Elder Matsunaga and I and the STL’s gave a zone training on becoming experts in PMG which went really well and lined up perfectly with President Warnick’s trainings, and then Elder McDonald and I did a musical number with President Warnick in guitar which went as well as it could with zero practice lol. Either way though, we sang “I’ll go where you want me to go” and the Spirit was strong, so that’s all that matters. Next pretty big event this past week was our typhoon this past Saturday . We talked to some pretty concerned Japanese people and got lots of calls from leadership, but everything was completely fine. I tried explain...
