Transfer 5! (Week 33)

Hello everyone! Hope everyone has had a fantastic week! Where does the time even go? It seems like just a few weeks ago I reported to the MTC and now here we are about to be five transfers into Japan. Just crazy. As far as transfers go, the big news is that I won't be transferring from the wonderful area of Kunitachi, but I can't same the same for my companion. Elder Yara will be transferring to Odawara and my new companion will be Elder Ramos. I met Elder Ramos once before when we hiked Mt. Takao several weeks ago. He seems way cool so I am excited for this upcoming transfer! Also excited to be in Kunitachi again. The Ward members are just so great here. Recently we have had a lesson and a meal every week and we are already almost fully scheduled for the month of May as well! Exciting! Great people, great food. What more could you ask for?

For those that don't know (because I haven't written in 2 weeks), about two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. What that means is, I got sick and a little stressed and that caused some nerve damage. The muscle is the right side of my face became paralyzed. At first it was pretty scary. I had never heard of Bell's Palsy before and wasn't sure what to expect. I spent a lot of time at the doctor recently. Seeing a nerve specialist, had to get an MRI, lots of meds, and all that fun stuff. When I wasn't seeing a doctor, I was praying.  Let me tell you, it hasn't been easy, but my testimony of prayer and faith has been strengthened beyond anything I could have imagined. In the past few days, the nerves have begun to heal and I have begun to regain control of the muscle. At my most recent doctors visit, I was told that I should be fully healed within the next two or three months. I fully stand by the fact that it was nothing short of lots of answered prayers that allowed me to not only begin recovery but experience growth through trials.

To everyone at home, I just love you so much. I will never be able to express the gratitude I have for all the prayers offered on my behalf and the strength and support I receive from you every day. As for me, I am getting better every day and I appreciate the love from across the world. Until next week, 皆さん愛しています!

MTC Week 1

Wednesday September 21, 2016 My p-day in the MTC is every Wednesday so expect emails then. I can read emails any day but I can only reply on p-day. I will admit, the first week of The MTC was really really tough. It was incredibly frustrating trying to learn the language, and trying to adapt to my new, very scheduled lifestyle. Since Sunday, I've been able to settle in a little more though and come to terms with having to be patient with myself as I learn the language and further learn the Gospel. On our second day in the MTC, we received our first investigator, Ohira san, who we have been teaching in Japanese! The first lesson was a total bomb shell, but as we have learned to stop trying to rely on ourselves and our own teaching skill, and start relying on the Spirit to teach, we have seen much success in just these few days. My companion is Jones Chōrō. We are not very much alike at all, but we work well together and generally keep each other in balance. Chab Chōrō is our dis...

Thanks for the Ride⛩🏆 (Week 102 - Last P-day!!!)

Today is a day of mixed emotions. As we come to the end of this two year adventure they call a mission, my heart is filled with nothing but gratitude and joy. The past two years have been an experience like no other, but I’m just grateful that the Lord saw fit to let me be a part of it and see his hand bless the lives of folks through me. There is a quote I saw once that I think sums things up pretty well. “Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he has been robbed. Most putts don’t drop. Most beef is tough. Most children grow up to be just people. Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration. Most jobs are more often dull than otherwise. Life is like an old-time rail journey: delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.” It has been truly h...
