The 3 Day Party🎉⛩ (Week 99)

おはようございます!
Hope everyone had an awesome week! This past week in Hachioji has definitely been one to remember. For most of the week, Elder Matsunaga and I were running around from district to district for meetings, going up to Kichijoji for MLC, and teaching lessons, doing baptismal interviews, and so on in between. It's been a blast but the real party was going on this past weekend.

Now usually, Japanese people are very much the “stay in your own lane” type, and typically aren’t big fans of causing a scene in the streets, but let me tell you, when the annual Hachioji summer festival rolls around, they know how to turn up. The prep for this festival has been going on for several weeks now, and the turn out was huge. The actual party started Friday morning and didn’t end until Sunday night. There were so many people on the streets, you literally couldn’t walk. It was just a matter of friendly shoving and foot shuffling until we made it through. It was a lot of fun though. There were ice sculpture contests, these really big Japanese drum performances, and lots of other attractions. Street contacting didn’t get a lot of success, but the Kubari was fire. We handed out lots fliers and talked to tons of people so it was a good time.

Other than that, not too much to report. We’ve been busy and it’s been good. Getting lost in the service of your fellow man is hands down, the way to go. As the wisest man who ever lived once said, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” When we just forget ourselves and go to work, we are able to find a little piece of life that is truly exquisite. I love you all and hope you all have a great week!

MTC Week 1

Wednesday September 21, 2016 My p-day in the MTC is every Wednesday so expect emails then. I can read emails any day but I can only reply on p-day. I will admit, the first week of The MTC was really really tough. It was incredibly frustrating trying to learn the language, and trying to adapt to my new, very scheduled lifestyle. Since Sunday, I've been able to settle in a little more though and come to terms with having to be patient with myself as I learn the language and further learn the Gospel. On our second day in the MTC, we received our first investigator, Ohira san, who we have been teaching in Japanese! The first lesson was a total bomb shell, but as we have learned to stop trying to rely on ourselves and our own teaching skill, and start relying on the Spirit to teach, we have seen much success in just these few days. My companion is Jones Chōrō. We are not very much alike at all, but we work well together and generally keep each other in balance. Chab Chōrō is our dis...

Set Apart

On Saturday September 10th, 2016 Dylan was set apart as a full time missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by our stake president, Peter M. Johnson.  There were a lot of family members there and it was an exciting and emotional day.
