一石二鳥 💸 ⛩ 💯 (Week 83)

Buenos días! Honestly, you’d be amazed at how many languages we speak here in the tiny country of Japan (roughly the same size of California if you were wondering). And sometimes I feel like I was sent here to find people who aren’t even Japanese lol. Don’t have a ton of time to write this week so I’ll get right into it!

This past week was way good. We had lots of opportunities to go out, hit the streets, and talk to tons of people. Last Monday, we had a zone blitz in the Kamakura area. Put 14 fired-up missionaries in one concentrated city and you’re bound to see miracles. As a zone, we were able to talk to tons of people and find several new people to teach. Big success. We also the opportunity to go on splits with the AP’s this week. Elder Harrison went with Elder Poff and I went with Elder Morris. Once again we talked to tons of people and found several new people to begin teaching.

The last/biggest miracle this week was on splits with Elder Wood last Saturday. That night, we were out doing some street contacting and as we started to make our way back home, this guy who is wearing a du-rag, flat cap, and is obviously not Japanese walks up to us. We say hello, introduce ourselves, and strike up a good conversation. Turns out this guy is from Nepal but is living and working here in Japan. We ask if we could share a short video message about Jesus Christ and he’s just like what? here? and we’re like yeah, right here is good or another time is good, or whatever. So then this guy is just like, well, my apartment is like right over there so why don’t you guys come over and we can talk there. So, going forth with neither purse nor script, we go to this guy's apartment where we also meet his roommate (who is Christian and also from Nepal) and strike up a good conversation. As soon as this happens, the original flat cap homie gets a phone call out of the blue and disappears for the rest of the night. So, we talk to our new homie for a couple minutes and try to build up some kind of relationship of trust. It was crazy awkward at first because this guy was just laying in bed and somehow these two white dudes in suits ended up in his apartment and right next to him and none of us are too sure of what’s going on. We just tried to be friendly though and everything ended up going way smoothly. We were able to teach a way awesome on the spot lesson on the Restoration and the Godhead. At the end, we set up a next appointment and we will be meeting again this Thursday. It is amazing to see how the Lord will guide us to places that we never could have been in ways that we never could have imagined. Way awesome experience and hopefully we can meet with our new friend and help him start progressing.

Well this email ended up being longer than expected so hopefully it wasn’t too boring. If you made it this far, I guess I didn’t do too bad haha. Anyway, it’s been a great week. The Lord is good and the work is sweet. Hope everyone has a great week. 愛しています!

Happy Easter! (Week 31)

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a great Easter! This is not really a weekly email and I will get straight to the point. This past week has definitely been an eventful one. Last Friday, I was diagnosed with this thing called Bell's Palsy. Scary. Last Wednesday, the right side of my lip was feeling a little weird and by Thursday , I lost all control of the muscle in the right side of my face. On Friday , I received a priesthood blessing and went to the doctor to get it checked out. It was definitely an expensive day. Had to see a nerve specialist, get a MRI and all that fun stuff. The bad news is, I have zero control of the muscle in the right side of my face and I'm on some meds for this week. Good news is, in a couple months I should be all good. Apparently it is due to a bit of a virus I've had recently on top of the stresses of being a missionary and that caused a bit of minor nerve damage. So I'm sorry in advance for all of my pics with no smiles in them thes

MTC Week 5

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week! This week in the MTC has been great! Last Wednesday we got our new kohai (1st 3 week missionaries). They are great, and remind me a lot of when I first came in. Time really flies! We will be dai-senpai (3rd 3 week missionaries) in 6 days . [Note from Barry:  I looked up the translation of kohai, senpai, and dai-senpai.  Here's what I gather:  Missionaires going to Japan are in the MTC for about 9 weeks.  Every 3 weeks a new group of missionaries to Japan comes in. kohai = junior student (first 3 weeks in the MTC) senpai = advanced student or upperclassman (2nd 3 weeks in the MTC) dai = great or big, so dai-senpai = the most senior students (last 3 weeks)] Last Friday marked our one month mark. Only 23 left in the mission, and time is just getting faster and faster. Saturday marked our half way point in our MTC experience. The first 2 or 3 weeks were rough, but these past few have been great. The five other eld

The Beginning of the End ⛩ (Week 97)

Have you ever just walked outside and been like, wow, you know, it’s really really hot out here and it probably can’t get any hotter than this? And then you walk out the next day and realize it got even hotter... We’ll, if I had to sum up our week this past week, that’s how I’d describe it. Hachioji truly is 太陽の町. It’s been rough, but we’re hanging in there and having some fun along the way. In other news, this past week was transfers, and there has been some major changes. First off, I’m still here in Hachioji (blessings from Heaven), but Elder Gill transferred to my old area Yokosuka, and my new companion is the one and only Elder Matsunaga from Yamaguchi-Ken. On top of that, our zone has doubled in size and now we cover the entire Machida Stake rather than just the western half. Yea, I just thought last transfer was busy. We’ve been running around like chickens with our heads cut off working with Stake leaders, organizing all our districts, planning zone conference, and coordinatin
