To the top of Takao ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต⛰๐Ÿง—‍♂️ (Week 76)

็š†ๆง˜、ใŠใฏใ‚ˆใ†ใ”ใ–ใ„ใพใ™! So, you remember last week how I wrote a pretty short email because we went to Costco and didn’t have any time and I said I’d do better next week? Well, next week has now arrived and instead of spending all my time writing you all a well worded email, we’ll be hiking Mt. Takao today. Since time is short once again, I’ll try to cover the highlights as I sit here on the train. ใ‚ˆใ‚ใ—ใใŠ้ก˜ใ„ใ—ใพใ™。

1. P day last week was good. Costco and lots of pizza.
2. Went on exchanges with the zone leaders and had a great time. Learned about the importance of being real and how we can more effectively work together as a zone.
3. Taught English class which is always a lot of fun. Our students are the best.
4. Our English class students took Elder Low and I out to lunch at a sushi place that was far more expensive than we felt comfortable letting them pay for us. But, they refused our money and we all had a good time with the best sushi I have her placed upon my tongue.
5. Got to do that thing that PMG talks about as the “ideal teaching situation”. A member had a friend who he invited to his home to meet with him and us. It was a great contact and a lot of fun.
6. Later realized that the same guy we met at the members house was also a former investigator who we had been trying to get in contact with for a while but never could. Huge miracle.
7. Met with a good friend of ours from Taiwan. He’s not from Taipei (sorry Sister Johnson), but he is a way cool guy who is living here in Japan for about a year for work. He goes by the name Mars, which in my personal opinion, is pretty legit. We’ll hopefully be meeting with him again this week so it’s pretty exciting.
8. And it came to pass that President Warnick said, let there be sisters, and it was done. The Kohoku/Kanagawa area is officially no longer Sister missionary-less. The new sisters are Sister Berghout and Sister Sepulcri. Interesting names but awesome sisters. Looking forward to working with them.
9. Had a Kohoku Ward game night. Had a pretty good turnout. Played a couple good games of Volleyball and had a lot of fun.
10. Had Church on Sunday. Realized how far my Japanese has come and how much the Lord has blessed me to be able to learn.
11. Today, we will be meeting up with some past companions and hiking Takao. It’s gonna be a lot of fun and I’ll try to get some good pics.

In all honesty, the past week flew by and I don’t remember a whole lot of it, but it was bomb. Always an adventure and I thank the Lord that I am able to experience the ride. I love you all and hope everyone has a good week!

Happy Easter! (Week 31)

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a great Easter! This is not really a weekly email and I will get straight to the point. This past week has definitely been an eventful one. Last Friday, I was diagnosed with this thing called Bell's Palsy. Scary. Last Wednesday, the right side of my lip was feeling a little weird and by Thursday , I lost all control of the muscle in the right side of my face. On Friday , I received a priesthood blessing and went to the doctor to get it checked out. It was definitely an expensive day. Had to see a nerve specialist, get a MRI and all that fun stuff. The bad news is, I have zero control of the muscle in the right side of my face and I'm on some meds for this week. Good news is, in a couple months I should be all good. Apparently it is due to a bit of a virus I've had recently on top of the stresses of being a missionary and that caused a bit of minor nerve damage. So I'm sorry in advance for all of my pics with no smiles in them thes

MTC Week 5

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week! This week in the MTC has been great! Last Wednesday we got our new kohai (1st 3 week missionaries). They are great, and remind me a lot of when I first came in. Time really flies! We will be dai-senpai (3rd 3 week missionaries) in 6 days . [Note from Barry:  I looked up the translation of kohai, senpai, and dai-senpai.  Here's what I gather:  Missionaires going to Japan are in the MTC for about 9 weeks.  Every 3 weeks a new group of missionaries to Japan comes in. kohai = junior student (first 3 weeks in the MTC) senpai = advanced student or upperclassman (2nd 3 weeks in the MTC) dai = great or big, so dai-senpai = the most senior students (last 3 weeks)] Last Friday marked our one month mark. Only 23 left in the mission, and time is just getting faster and faster. Saturday marked our half way point in our MTC experience. The first 2 or 3 weeks were rough, but these past few have been great. The five other eld

The Beginning of the End ⛩ (Week 97)

Have you ever just walked outside and been like, wow, you know, it’s really really hot out here and it probably can’t get any hotter than this? And then you walk out the next day and realize it got even hotter... We’ll, if I had to sum up our week this past week, that’s how I’d describe it. Hachioji truly is ๅคช้™ฝใฎ็”บ. It’s been rough, but we’re hanging in there and having some fun along the way. In other news, this past week was transfers, and there has been some major changes. First off, I’m still here in Hachioji (blessings from Heaven), but Elder Gill transferred to my old area Yokosuka, and my new companion is the one and only Elder Matsunaga from Yamaguchi-Ken. On top of that, our zone has doubled in size and now we cover the entire Machida Stake rather than just the western half. Yea, I just thought last transfer was busy. We’ve been running around like chickens with our heads cut off working with Stake leaders, organizing all our districts, planning zone conference, and coordinatin
