まだまだこれから (Week 57)

(Note from Barry:  Google translates the title above to "Still More".)

Hey, hey hey! This is Elder Sadler coming at you from Yokosuka, Japan!  How was everyone's week? Elder Thomson and I have been living it up over here in the Land of the Rising Sun. It's been raining for a week straight now. No joke! It hasn't stopped, like at all. But that hasn't stopped us from getting out in the service of our Lord and our fellow man!

To be honest with you, not a whole lot of interesting stuff happened this week. Our investigators all fell through again, for the third week in a row. That was pretty frustrating, but we found the gold lining! One great thing that happened this week was a guy named Jospeh that we talked to on the street a few days ago. Way nice guy. He said he had met missionaries back in the states and had been going to church for a while, but since coming to Japan a year ago, he has not been. He said that he wanted to get back into it so we invited him for this past Sunday. Unfortunately, his work got in the way, but we will be meeting with him again on Friday. Second great thing was service! One of the
families in our Ward is flying home today, so we got to go help them pack and clean stuff out of their military housing unit to prepare for the move. They are a way nice family and he is a recent covert of a little less than a year. It was way awesome to be able to go help them move stuff in and out of the house and through the rain. I can honestly say, before my mission, I never thought I'd love service as
much as I do now. It's so great! Service as a missionary is great, but it comes with lots of hard times and stress. When we go out and serve, our problems seems to melt away as we invest in the challenges of others. As I have served, I find my self, not inconvenienced, but rather more happy, more enthusiastic and with a greater love for the people. The past few weeks have had their challenges, but we have been able to make the most and continue to love and serve.

And now for the big news... Today is TRANSFER CALLS!!!! Another transfer has come and gone. Look ahead two years: wow that's a ways down the road. Look back two years: where did the time go? That's how I would explain a mission. It's fun, it's difficult, a real big learning curve, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The big news is, I'll be staying in Yokosuka as a trainer and district leader. It's pretty exciting. Elder McDonald is out and Elder Ota will be Elder Mori's new companion. Two white guys and two Japanese guys. It's gonna be a blast. Excited to serve for four transfers here in Yokosuka!

And to wrap up this weekly, I love you all. Your love for me and support for me is greatly appreciated. Perhaps more than you will ever know. Hope everyone has a great week! Make the most of every minute!

Maybe I'll just be a Samurai when I grow up...

I think I'd pull it off

Happy Easter! (Week 31)

Hello everyone! Hope everyone is having a great Easter! This is not really a weekly email and I will get straight to the point. This past week has definitely been an eventful one. Last Friday, I was diagnosed with this thing called Bell's Palsy. Scary. Last Wednesday, the right side of my lip was feeling a little weird and by Thursday , I lost all control of the muscle in the right side of my face. On Friday , I received a priesthood blessing and went to the doctor to get it checked out. It was definitely an expensive day. Had to see a nerve specialist, get a MRI and all that fun stuff. The bad news is, I have zero control of the muscle in the right side of my face and I'm on some meds for this week. Good news is, in a couple months I should be all good. Apparently it is due to a bit of a virus I've had recently on top of the stresses of being a missionary and that caused a bit of minor nerve damage. So I'm sorry in advance for all of my pics with no smiles in them thes

MTC Week 5

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week! This week in the MTC has been great! Last Wednesday we got our new kohai (1st 3 week missionaries). They are great, and remind me a lot of when I first came in. Time really flies! We will be dai-senpai (3rd 3 week missionaries) in 6 days . [Note from Barry:  I looked up the translation of kohai, senpai, and dai-senpai.  Here's what I gather:  Missionaires going to Japan are in the MTC for about 9 weeks.  Every 3 weeks a new group of missionaries to Japan comes in. kohai = junior student (first 3 weeks in the MTC) senpai = advanced student or upperclassman (2nd 3 weeks in the MTC) dai = great or big, so dai-senpai = the most senior students (last 3 weeks)] Last Friday marked our one month mark. Only 23 left in the mission, and time is just getting faster and faster. Saturday marked our half way point in our MTC experience. The first 2 or 3 weeks were rough, but these past few have been great. The five other eld

2months2party ⛩ (Week 94)

What’s up everybody!? It’s been week. Lots of ups, plenty of downs, but always a good time. Elder Gill and I have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off this past week and this coming week doesn’t look any less busy but we’ve been making the most. Apparently Hachioji is also know as the city of the sun. And let me tell you, the moment we step outside the apartment everyday, I am reminded why. We’ve been in 30’s (like 90ish in Fahrenheit I think) all week and wearing a button down with a tie and collar definitely doesn’t help. Either way though, we are working hard to stay healthy, stay genki, and keep our dendo fire burning warmer than the temperature outside. We’ve got plans to hit up Tama Zoo today, so I don’t have too much time to write, but I’ll make sure to take some pics. Also have a zone blitz here in Hachioji tonight so we’re excited for that. Miracles are just waiting around the corner! Well, that’s about all folks. Hope everyone has a good w
